Animals

Fountains in Pons, Charente
The fountains on the market place in Pons, Charente, are much needed refreshment on a hot day

It’s a hubbub of activity with 4 Rescue Dogs & 4 Rescue Cats running around in a total cacophony of Franglaise accents.  Everyone deserves a chance of a forever home. Occasionally you will find additional Foster animals here too. There’s usually some four legged companion seeking love, recuperation & rehabilitation on site.

Joining them are french born and bred Chickens & Bantams, Runner Ducks, Golden Pheasant, followed by a mix of french and spanish born Alpaca, alongside Angora Goats and Dairy Goat breeds.

Traditional Crafts

The human contingent will continue the business of making fine jewellery and other items in precious metals. Woodworking activities will include building our own range of spinning wheels with accessories. Luscious Pen & Pencil collections made with highest quality german mechanisms. Soon we will also offer gorgeous handmade chairs and other furniture. More on that to come later.

Filigree, handcrafted in the Traditional Russian style

On a more relaxed level, traditional lacemaking, of bobbin, needle and tatting skills, with other, largely textile, activities too. This will include spinning yarn from the fleeces from the angora goats, alpaca and Silkworm threads, to felting sculptures & accessories, to while away the dark winter nights, huddled by the log burner.  Design comes in many shapes and forms, which often leads to original art in coloured pencil, graphite, pen & ink or watercolours too.

Mustn’t forget the foodie focus that Martin enjoys. He has wanted to have a large Potager (french for vegetable patch) for years. Much planting of fruit and vegetables will be happening ahead of Spring 2020 with the arrival of a much needed polytunnel. He then plans to pickle and preserve by Autumn. It’s most fortunate that old French properties tend to come with their own marvellous cellar for keeping such stock, and ours will soon be reclaimed for our ‘clean kitchen’ preparation workspace.

The introduction of Dairy Goat breeds onto the farm means that we will also anticipate milking to commence after kidding, from Spring 2020. Melody will be creating Milk, Butter, Artisan Goat Cheeses, Probiotic Kefir, Skin Care and Soaps for your overall wellbeing and enjoyment.

Education

Felting with Merino Wool

It is impractical for us to offer regular diarised workshops due to the workload of running a busy farm and related business, at this time. However, we can offer the occasional group or 1-2-1 teaching on request, and it’s possible that we can come to your group across Europe & UK. In the meantime, you can order individual tutorials or full kits to enjoy. Do contact us if you would like us to talk about the options.

Holiday & Activities

There are plenty of holiday lets around the area, so its easy to come to see our product before you buy by appointment. You will enjoy the marvellous variety of scenery and seasons in the Haute-Vienne. We are located on the borders of Department 87 Haute-Vienne with 16 Charente & 24 Dordogne, so we get the best of the summer micro-climate. Rolling country views, mountains and valleys, lakes and rivers, not forgetting the gastronomy. Its all easy access to the whole of the Nouvelle Aquitaine – Limousin & Poiteau Charentes region with Cognac, Pineau, Oysters, Cheese and Sunflowers in abundance. To help with this we created an initial page of links to get you going and don’t forget to book in with us for your Alpaca Experience and we also offer hosting for Workaway experience, directly here on the farm.

Felt Sculpting Fun

We hope to create accommodation for rental here eventually. This will be aimed for crafters, artists, and animal and nature lovers as an experiential vacation, with the potential to use our workshop and studio space whilst here too.

We look forward to sharing our experience with you.  In the meantime, do keep up to date with us via the Blog, where we will be providing you with anecdotal catch-ups of what’s going on in the process of being alive.

Best Wishes, Bon Courage
